Since CoServ Gas was established in 1998, we have been committed to providing our Customers with safe and reliable natural gas service. Our system was developed using modern materials and best practices, including the use of excess flow valves (EFVs).
EFVs stop the flow of gas if the service line is broken and are a part of our standard equipment for new construction, which includes nearly all single-family residential service lines.
While new federal regulations require us to notify Customers of their right to request an EFV; it was already CoServ Gas' policy to install these devices and/or manual shut-off valves on all qualifying service lines at no cost to our Customers, as well as to maintain and replace equipment, as necessary, at no charge.
Even so, we have deployed an EFV and/or manual shut-off valve verification-and-installation program on some of our existing natural gas service lines in accordance with recent federal regulations.
Our deployment team will contact qualifying Customers to discuss the installation process.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the benefit of an excess flow valve (EFV)?
EFVs are designed to automatically stop the flow of natural gas from a broken service line. Stopping the flow of natural gas from a broken service line significantly reduces the risk of a natural gas incident that could result in personal injury and/or property damage.
Why is CoServ Gas installing EFVs?
Since 1998, CoServ Gas has installed EFVs as part of our standard equipment for applicable new construction, which includes nearly all single-family residential service lines. While recent natural gas regulations require us to notify existing qualifying Customers of their right to request installation of this device, we have proactively chosen to perform this installation on all qualifying service lines through a multi-year program.
What lines qualify for the expanded installation program?
Multifamily residences, small commercial Customers, and certain single-family residences located within specific portions of our service territory, and whose gas usage does not exceed 1,000 standard cubic feet per hour. (This applies to less than two percent of our natural gas residential and commercial Customers.)
Will the installation come with a cost to me?
No. CoServ Gas has chosen to absorb the cost to install and maintain the device.
How long will it take to finish the installation program?
This project will be a multi-year effort. We will contact Customers as deployment nears their gas service area to schedule a mutually agreeable date for installation.
Will my natural gas bill go up because of this feature?
No. This installation program is at no extra cost to Customers that meet the evaluation criteria.
